Brass is having its moment for a reason. After a decade of cold minimalism — matte black everything, grey concrete, no warmth — interiors are swinging back toward materials that age, that catch light differently at different hours, that look better ten years from now than they do on delivery day. Brass does all of that. Against hot-rolled steel, it does something specific: the warmth of the brass pulls the industrial out of the utilitarian and into the architectural. It stops looking like a factory and starts looking like a library.
The IndustriaLux Wall System is built around that tension. The steel frame is the same hand-formed, hand-finished construction as the rest of the Vintage Industrial line. The brass — corner brackets, pulls, door frames — is not applied on top of it. It is integrated into the structure, the same way a craftsman would have done it a hundred years ago when brass and steel were both working materials, not decorative choices.
The system configures as a complete office: wall unit above, integrated desk below, glass-front cabinet storage flanking the knee space. LED strip lighting runs along the shelf backs. The desk is built into the system, not pushed against it — position, depth, and height confirmed at commission. The whole piece installs floor-standing with a clean architectural base, no casters.
If you want the same scale without the brass, the Warm Warehouse Wall System and the Grandpa Chic Built-In Office are built on the same logic in a rawer industrial finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does brass work with industrial steel?+
Steel and brass have always been working materials — not decorative ones. Historically they appeared together in industrial and architectural contexts because each does something the other can’t: steel provides structural mass and permanence, brass provides warmth, light reflection, and a finish that improves with age. On this piece, blackened steel as the frame finish creates maximum contrast with the brass — the combination reads as intentional rather than decorative.
How does the IndustriaLux differ from the other Vintage Industrial wall systems?+
Is the brass hardware solid brass?+
Yes — corner brackets, pulls, and door frame accents are solid brass, not plated. Brass develops a natural patina over time. A living finish option is available, or the brass can be lacquered to hold its original tone.
What wood species are available?+
Walnut and mahogany are the primary species — both pair naturally with brass. White oak and maple are also available. All hardwood is hand-selected for grain and character.
What steel finishes are available?+
Natural steel, blackened steel, and aged paint finish are standard. Blackened steel pairs particularly well with brass hardware. Custom paint finishes and color matching are also available.
What is the lead time?+
Lead time is 12 or more weeks from commission confirmation. Delivery method — freight curbside or white glove inside placement and assembly — is confirmed during your commission conversation.
I’ve seen something that looks exactly like this on another site. Is it the same piece?+
No. Vintage Industrial designs have been copied extensively since 2009, primarily by Asian manufacturers selling through direct-from-China storefronts. The pieces look similar in photos but weigh a quarter of what ours do — they’re not designed to last, they’re designed to sell at a cheap price. Vintage Industrial sells direct only, through retro.net. We have no other sales channels, no third-party retailers, no Amazon storefront. If you’re seeing something like this anywhere else, it’s a counterfeit. Every Vintage Industrial piece is built to order in our Chicago shop by hand, from hot-rolled steel and solid hardwood, with a 12+ week lead time.
