The steel base is engineered to industrial tolerances, a grade above both commercial and residential furniture. These aren’t display pieces — they’re built for the factory floor, refined for the room.

Wood and steel shelving are both available. Wood shelves are solid, premium, sustainably sourced hardwood, hand-selected for figure and finish. Standard species are oak, walnut, mahogany, and cherry — other species are available on request. Shelving material and finish are finalized during your commission conversation.

Can I change the door medium — glass instead of mesh?

Yes. Glass, solid panel, and other mediums are available. This is discussed and finalized during the commission process.

Can I add drawers or a cabinet section?

Accepted Answer

Yes — drawers, enclosed cabinet sections, and open bays can all be combined. Interior configuration is determined during the design conversation.

What finish options are available for the steel?

Accepted Answer

Black patina is shown as standard. Natural patina and painted finishes are available and finalized during the commission process.

Does the wall unit require wall-anchoring?

Accepted Answer

Yes — wall-anchoring is required for all wall units. Pre-drilled holes are included for securing to the wall. Appropriate fasteners depend on your wall material and are not included.

Can the layout be configured to fit my space?

Yes. Bay count, overall width, height, and depth are all adjustable. We build to your wall and room — dimensions are finalized during the commission conversation.

What is the lead time?

Standard delivery is freight curbside. White glove service — inside placement, unpacking, and full assembly — is available; delivery method is confirmed during your commission conversation.

I’ve seen something that looks exactly like this on another site. Is it the same piece?

No. Vintage Industrial designs have been copied extensively since 2009, primarily by Asian manufacturers selling through direct-from-China storefronts. The pieces look similar in photos but weigh a quarter of what ours do — they’re not designed to last, they’re designed to sell at a cheap price. Vintage Industrial sells direct only, through retro.net. We have no other sales channels, no third-party retailers, no Amazon storefront. If you’re seeing something like this anywhere else, it’s a counterfeit. Every Vintage Industrial piece is built to order in our Chicago shop by hand, from hot-rolled steel and solid hardwood, with a 12+ week lead time.
