Description
Four Generations of a Single Idea
The name is earned. The Casegood No. 4 is what happens when a design is built, studied, rebuilt, and refined across four commissions — not by committee, but by craftsmen responding to real spaces and real clients. Each iteration answered something the last one left open: proportion, hinge weight, mesh tension. This version is the one we kept.
Materials & Construction
The frame is hot-rolled steel, hand-selected for grain and character, then finished in a black patina that deepens with time. Over a two hundred rivets on the outside — structural, not decorative. The doors are fitted with woven wire mesh as standard; glass and other mediums are available. Interior shelving is solid, premium, sustainably sourced hardwood, hand-selected for figure and finish — medium-stained oak is shown, though other species and steel shelving are available. The finishing process is hands-on: each surface is worked to a standard that photographs can only approximate.
Design & Features
The Casegood No. 4 occupies a rare category: custom office cabinetry built to heirloom quality, without the institutional coldness of commercial executive office storage. It functions as an armoire, a credenza, a jewelry or gun safe, a library cabinet, or a bar — the configuration is yours to define. Drawers, integrated lighting, painted or natural patina finishes, alternative door mediums: all on the table. This is not a piece you select from a catalog. It is a piece you commission from craftsmen who will build it once, build it right, and build it to last.
Commission Process & Lead Time
The Casegood No. 4 is made to order. Begin Your Commission and we’ll work through every detail together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this table suitable for daily use?+
Yes. Both the top and base are finished with a restaurant-grade sealer built for all-day, everyday use. The steel base is engineered to industrial tolerances, a grade above both commercial and residential furniture. These aren’t display pieces — they’re built for the factory floor, refined for the room.
How do I clean the wire mesh doors?+
A dry or lightly dampened cloth is all that’s needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners — the black patina finish develops character over time and is best left to do so naturally.
Does the piece require wall-anchoring?+
We recommend wall-anchoring all our shelving pieces. Each unit includes pre-drilled holes in the back panel for securing to the wall — hardware is not included, as the appropriate fasteners depend on your wall material and installation surface.
Can I change the door medium — glass instead of mesh?+
Yes. Glass, solid panel, and other mediums are available. This is discussed and finalized during the commission process.
What shelving options are available?+
Wood and steel shelving are both available. Wood shelves are solid, premium, sustainably sourced hardwood, hand-selected for figure and finish. Standard species are oak, mahogany, walnut, and cherry — other species are available on request. Shelving material and finish are finalized during your commission conversation.
What finish options are available for the steel?+
Black patina is shown as standard. Natural patina and painted finishes are available and discussed during the commission process.
Can I add drawers or interior lighting?+
Yes — both are available as commission options. Interior configuration, drawer count, and lighting are all determined during the design conversation.
What is the lead time?+
Lead times are typically 12 weeks or more from deposit, depending on configuration. We’ll confirm your specific timeline at the start of your commission.
How is it delivered?+
Standard delivery is freight curbside. White glove service — inside placement, unpacking, and full assembly — is available; delivery method is confirmed during your commission conversation.
I’ve seen something that looks exactly like this on another site. Is it the same piece?+
No. Vintage Industrial designs have been copied extensively since 2009, primarily by Asian manufacturers selling through direct-from-China storefronts. The pieces look similar in photos but weigh a quarter of what ours do — they’re not designed to last, they’re designed to sell at a cheap price. Vintage Industrial sells direct only, through retro.net. We have no other sales channels, no third-party retailers, no Amazon storefront. If you’re seeing something like this anywhere else, it’s a counterfeit. Every Vintage Industrial piece is built to order in our Chicago shop by hand, from hot-rolled steel and solid hardwood, with a 12+ week lead time.
