Description
The XL Desk is a statement before you sit down. The X-panel base — hot-rolled steel, hand selected for grain and character — gives it a presence that generic office furniture can’t touch. The L it forms when paired with a return is where serious work happens.
Tops are solid, premium, sustainably sourced hardwood, finished by hand in three species: Weathered Oak, Natural Walnut, and Rich Mahogany. Each one is hand selected — no two are identical.
Standard sizing starts at 72″ L × 36″ W, with an optional 84″ L × 40″ W. Returns are available in 26″ × 48″ and 30″ × 56″. Standing height is 30″. Custom dimensions are available.
Configure it the way your workflow demands:
- Pencil, side, and file drawers
- Computer tower shelf
- Custom panels with your insignia, logo, or design
- Grommets and cable management
Need to wrap your workspace completely? The U Shape XL Workstation takes the same steel-and-hardwood craftsmanship into a full U-configuration — storage, keyboard pulls, locking hardware, and total layout control.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this suitable for daily use?+
Yes. The top and base are finished with a restaurant-grade sealer built for all-day, everyday use. The steel base is engineered to industrial tolerances, a grade above both commercial and residential furniture. These aren’t display pieces — they’re built for the factory floor, refined for the room.
What wood species are available?+
Standard species are walnut, oak, mahogany, and cherry. All tops are solid, premium, sustainably sourced hardwood, hand-selected for figure and grain. Other species are available on request and finalized during your commission conversation.
What steel finish options are available?+
Natural patina is shown as standard. Black patina and painted finishes are available and finalized during the commission process.
Can I specify the desk size?+
Yes — length, depth, and height are all adjustable to your space and workflow. Dimensions are finalized during your commission conversation.
What edge profiles are available?+
Live edge, straight, beveled, and other profiles are available depending on the model. Edge style is selected during your commission conversation.
Can I add cable management, grommets, or drawers?+
Yes. Cable management channels, grommets, and drawer units can all be incorporated. Configuration is finalized during your commission conversation.
Is a return or L-configuration available?+
Yes — L-shapes, returns, and corner configurations are available on most models. Layout is discussed and finalized during your commission.
What is the lead time?+
Lead times are typically 12 weeks or more from deposit, depending on configuration. Your specific timeline is confirmed at the start of your commission.
How is it delivered?+
Standard delivery is freight curbside. White glove service — inside placement, unpacking, and full assembly — is available; delivery method is confirmed during your commission conversation.
I’ve seen something that looks exactly like this on another site. Is it the same piece?+
No. Vintage Industrial designs have been copied extensively since 2009, primarily by Asian manufacturers selling through direct-from-China storefronts. The pieces look similar in photos but weigh a quarter of what ours do — they’re not designed to last, they’re designed to sell at a cheap price. Vintage Industrial sells direct only, through retro.net. We have no other sales channels, no third-party retailers, no Amazon storefront. If you’re seeing something like this anywhere else, it’s a counterfeit. Every Vintage Industrial piece is built to order in our Chicago shop by hand, from hot-rolled steel and solid hardwood, with a 12+ week lead time.
