Description
The Glossy Crank Table Base is the Vintage Industrial crank mechanism dressed for a different room. The engineering underneath is identical — a fully mechanical height-adjust system, no electricity, no failure points — but the powder-coat finish opens the design to environments that call for color and gloss alongside raw industrial structure. Shown in glossy red; available in any color finalized during your commission conversation.
The base is fabricated from hot-rolled steel, hand-selected for grain and character. The shown configuration features a polished steel top with a powder-coat clear finish. Solid hardwood and plate steel tops are also available, all with metal trim. Optional locking casters with rubber tread are available for pieces that need to move. All wooden tops include a breadboard end on both sides to prevent seasonal movement in the hardwood.
Top dimensions, base color, caster configuration, and height range are all finalized during your commission conversation. Complete the space with the Manhattan Shelf — storage built to the same steel and hardwood standard as this piece.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this suitable for daily use?+
Yes. The steel base is engineered to industrial tolerances, a grade above both commercial and residential furniture. Restaurant-grade sealer finishes every top for all-day, everyday use.
What finish colors are available?+
Glossy red is shown as standard. The base is available in any powder-coat color, finalized during your commission conversation.
What top options are available?+
Polished steel with powder-coat clear, solid hardwood, and plate steel tops are all available. Wood species include walnut, oak, mahogany, and cherry — hand-selected for figure and grain. Top style is finalized during your commission conversation.
Can I specify the table size?+
Yes — top dimensions, height range, and caster configuration are all adjustable. Everything is finalized during your commission conversation.
How does the crank mechanism work?+
A hand-crank raises and lowers the top smoothly between seated and standing heights. No electricity required — the mechanism is fully mechanical, built to last, and field-serviceable.
Are casters included?+
Locking casters with rubber tread are optional and can be added to your commission. Configuration is confirmed during your commission conversation.
What is the lead time?+
Lead times are typically 12 weeks or more from deposit, depending on configuration. Your specific timeline is confirmed at the start of your commission.
How is it delivered?+
Standard delivery is freight curbside. White glove service — inside placement, unpacking, and full assembly — is available; delivery method is confirmed during your commission conversation.
I’ve seen something that looks exactly like this on another site. Is it the same piece?+
No. Vintage Industrial designs have been copied extensively since 2009, primarily by Asian manufacturers selling through direct-from-China storefronts. The pieces look similar in photos but weigh a quarter of what ours do — they’re not designed to last, they’re designed to sell at a cheap price. Vintage Industrial sells direct only, through retro.net. We have no other sales channels, no third-party retailers, no Amazon storefront. If you’re seeing something like this anywhere else, it’s a counterfeit. Every Vintage Industrial piece is built to order in our Chicago shop by hand, from hot-rolled steel and solid hardwood, with a 12+ week lead time.
