Frequently Asked Questions
Why cold-rolled steel instead of hot-rolled?+
Cold-rolled steel is smoother, more dimensionally consistent, and stronger than hot-rolled. It also takes finish better — the surface character is more refined, which matters on a piece where the steel itself is the visual. It costs more to source and more to work with, but the result justifies it on a table like this.
How is the base constructed?+
Each rod is bent twice with precision tooling to achieve the exact splay angle, then the rods are welded together at the top where they converge. That weld connects to a hidden structural subframe underneath the tabletop — clean from every angle. It’s a repetitive, exacting process. There are a lot of rods. Every one has to be identical.
Is this table suitable for daily use?+
Yes. The base is engineered to industrial tolerances and sealed for everyday use. The splayed rod construction distributes load across the entire footprint — it’s built for permanence, not display.
What top materials are available?+
The Radial base accommodates any top material — marble, stone, glass, or solid hardwood. Tops can be sourced by your designer or fabricated by Vintage Industrial. Material and finish are finalized during your commission conversation.
What sizes are available?+
Standard diameters are 4, 5, and 6 feet. Custom sizes are available — diameter and height are both adjustable to your space and seating requirements, finalized during your commission conversation.
How much tabletop overhang does the base support?+
The Radial base is engineered to support generous tabletop overhang — 18 inches or more from the central column — providing full leg clearance and a floating visual effect even with heavy stone or marble tops. Overhang is customizable and confirmed during your commission conversation.
How many people does it seat?+
A 4-foot diameter seats 4 comfortably. A 5-foot seats 6. A 6-foot seats 8. Custom sizing can accommodate more — seating requirements are confirmed during your commission conversation.
What steel finish options are available?+
Natural steel, blackened steel, and aged paint finish are standard. Custom paint and color matching are available — finalized during your commission conversation.
Can the Radial Pedestal Table be configured for commercial or ADA requirements?+
Yes. The clearance height and base footprint can be adjusted during the commission process to meet specific ADA requirements for commercial hospitality, restaurant, and office spaces. Configuration details are confirmed during your commission conversation.
What is the lead time?+
Lead times are typically 12 weeks or more from deposit, depending on configuration. Your specific timeline is confirmed at the start of your commission.
How is it delivered?+
Standard delivery is freight curbside. White glove service — inside placement, unpacking, and full assembly — is available; delivery method is confirmed during your commission conversation.
I’ve seen something that looks exactly like this on another site. Is it the same piece?+
No. The Radial base requires dozens of individually bent and welded cold-rolled steel rods, assembled by hand. Mass-produced versions use lighter gauge material, skip the hidden subframe, and cut corners on the bend precision — it shows in the finished piece. Vintage Industrial sells direct only, through retro.net. Every piece is built to order in our Chicago shop with a 12+ week lead time. If you’re seeing this anywhere else, it’s a copy.
