Description
There is a particular kind of weight that French industrial design carries — not just physical mass, but the weight of intention. The French Column Table starts with 1″ solid steel plate for its main supports, each column surface hand-set with hundreds of rivets that serve no structural purpose beyond the statement they make. Massive strength, deliberate detail. The result is a table that belongs in a serious room.
The base is available in single, double, or triple pedestal configurations, scaled to your top size and seating requirements. Common top diameters run 48″ and 60″. Top materials include stone, concrete, marble, glass, solid hardwood, and plate steel — each sourced to your spec or supplied by Vintage Industrial. Every dimension is adjustable. Every finish is custom.
The Inspiration: A Bridge in Paris
I first saw the Pont de Bir-Hakeim in the film Inception and couldn’t get it out of my head. When my wife Sim and I went to Paris, I made a point to find it. Built in 1905, it’s a double-deck iron bridge — and standing underneath it, looking at those riveted steel columns splaying out from a central spine and reflecting in the wet pavement of the Seine, I knew exactly what the French Column base was supposed to be. The column form, the rivets, the way the steel widens at the base and narrows at the top — that’s all Bir-Hakeim. You can see the bridge in the photos in the gallery above. The French Column Table was designed and built in early 2015, shortly after returning from Paris.
Built for Any Top Material
The French Column base is engineered to support stone and concrete tops — materials that demand a foundation built to the same standard. Whether you’re pairing it with a slab of honed Calacatta marble, a hand-poured concrete top, or a hand-selected walnut slab, the base is sized and reinforced for the load. Top material, thickness, and edge profile are finalized during your commission conversation.
Working With Your Woodworker or Stone Fabricator
The French Column base ships as a standalone foundation. If you have a stone yard, slab fabricator, or woodworker you prefer to work with, we build the base to your top dimensions and ship it directly. The attachment system is straightforward — your fabricator handles the top, we handle the base. Most clients find the process simpler than expected.

Geri B –
I worked with Greg through the quote process. I wanted a very custom version of this table design and that is I wanted to poker table on top of it. So he worked with a company that manufactures poker tabletops and custom designed two bases to fit. And I absolutely love them. Everybody that comes into my space can’t stop me. Commenting on them!
